A couple of weeks ago, Austin’s Nate Williamson was fighting at the Holiday Inn in Austin, but a few weeks from now, the local MMA fighter will be under the bright lights of Target Center in Minneapolis.
Williamson will participate in CFX 41 Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. in a three-round amateur bout and he’s excited for the chance to compete on a big stage.
“(MMA fighter) Matt Hughes will be there so that’s cool. It’s a big event and I’m pretty excited,” Williamson said.
Williamson, who used to wrestle for Austin and play football for Lyle-Pacelli, has won six of his seven career fights in the first round and his other victory was in the second round. He’s not sure who he’ll be fighting yet, but he’s expecting a tough contest.
“I kind of want to have a battle and a slugfest would be fun,” said Williamson, who is 22. “I don’t know what fighting in the Target Center will be like. It’s such a big place, but I guess I’ll find out.”
Williamson, who thanked his sponsor Total Domination, recently won the 165-pound title belt at the Brutaal All-American Cage Fights.
