Recount coming for Mapleview

The Mower County Auditor/Treasurer’s office is hosting a recount for the Mapleview Mayor’s race at 1 p.m. today.
According to the first count, incumbent Mayor Arnie Johnson won the election 51 to 47 over Larry Naatz on Nov. 6. Naatz requested a recount, which will not cost him anything as there were fewer than 400 voters in Mapleview.
While the Brownsdale mayoral race was even tighter, 130-129, challenger Jeff Foster said he will not request a recount because he does not want to waste the taxpayers’ money, said Mower County Auditor/Treasurer Doug Groh. Dave Pike will reclaim his seat as mayor.
Check back Friday afternoon for an update on this story.
