It was a chilling sight. In a stretch of only a few hours on I-35 Saturday, more than 30 motorists found their way in the ditch, including the driver of a jack-knifed semi-truck.
In near white-out conditions, cars and trucks and sport utility vehicles were passing others as if it was 70 degrees out in June.
Tow trucks and emergency vehicles were an all-too common sight as well.
It is one thing to fishtail in an empty parking lot downtown or slide here and there on a deserted county road, but it’s another thing to lose control on a busy interstate, where an accident can easily cause serious injury or death.
We know it may seem like common sense, but we remind drivers to slow down when traveling over the holidays, stay put during storms whenever possible and pack a few emergency supplies in your vehicle just in case, including a blanket, extra food and water.
Winter driving conditions can be hazardous to both you and to others, and to complicate the danger by driving too fast is simply not worth the risk.
