Celebration of life services for Weldon “Tex” Shaw, 70, of Medford, formerly of Emmons, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, with the Rev. Lowell Asplund officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Emmons American Legion Post No. 317.

Weldon was called to his eternal rest on Monday morning, Dec. 10, 2012, at his home in Medford, with his family by his side. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Weldon DeWayne Shaw was born on Oct. 6, 1942, to James Obert and Opal (Driver) Shaw in Celina, Texas. He was raised and attended Celina schools. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army to help his mother. Tex became a medic and was stationed in Germany and Iraq. After being discharged from the Army he came to Minnesota to meet his beautiful penpal Edie, who later became his wife and best friend. He was united in marriage to Edith Ann Sandbo on May 9, 1964, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born. They lived in Odin while Tex attended Mankato Commercial College. After graduating they moved to Emmons where he worked for Wilson & Co. in the accounting/engineering department for 18 years. When they downsized he took a job at Albert Lea Freezer warehouse as an inventory controller where he worked for the next eight years. He then retired from Fleetgaurd Inc. in Lake Mills. Tex enjoyed everything about serving his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed visiting with all his many friends at morning coffee; no one was ever a stranger to him. He was very talented at woodworking. He enjoyed designing items for his and Edie’s home crafting business. He also enjoyed mowing many of the neighborhood’s lawns for many years. He never missed, and always looked forward to, his yearly trip to Texas to visit his loving family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edie of Medford; his two children, Darren (Shelly) Shaw of Medford, and Heidi Tenold of Kellogg; four grandchildren, Zachary, Derek and Kaylie Shaw and Jacob Tenold; sister, Betty Burchette of Argyle, Texas; sister-in-law, Julie Shaw of Honey Grove, Texas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sandmeyer of St. James; brothers-in-law, Lester (Cheri) Sandbo of Ormsby, and Richard “Bick” Sandbo of Odin, and Gene (Patty) Sandbo of Sherburn; many nieces and nephews and his Texas cousins and many friends.

Tex was preceded in death by his parents, James Obert and Opal Lorene (Driver) Shaw; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Leona Sandbo; brothers, Bill Shaw and James Shaw; sisters, Janell Ellington and Delores Hayes; brother-in-law, Norman Sandmeyer and sister-in-law’s, Gerri Sandbo and Peggy Sandbo and other relatives.

Special thanks to the wonderful care given by his nurses, the hospice staff, Pastor Spande and Dr. Wood. He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered.
