Darlene V. Smith, 84, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System — Austin. Darlene Vivian Jeglum was born Dec. 25, 1927, near Oslo, Minn. to Obert and Hilma (Moen) Jeglum. After graduating from Hayfield High School in 1945, she worked at a clinic in Rochester. On Oct. 23, 1948, Darlene married Duane R. Smith at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, Minn. The couple lived in Rochester until moving to Austin in 1951. Darlene was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.

Survivors include her husband, Duane R. Smith of Austin; her children, Lee R. (Cindy) Smith of Austin and Eric Smith of Long Lake, Minn.; three grandchildren, Keri (Christopher) Holloway of Roseville, Kasey (David) Badzinski of Blaine, and Erin Bartos of St. Paul; two great grandchildren Reagan and Reese Badzinski; a sister, Phyllis (Maurice) Witter and a brother, Duane Jeglum, both of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents Obert and Hilma Jeglum, son Randy R. Smith on June 9, 2007, sister-in-law, Lois Jeglum.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Kristi Koppel officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
