Vera Mortensen, 96, Blooming Prairie

Vera Mortensen, 96, of Blooming Prairie, Minn., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Owatonna Hospital.
Vera was born June 28, 1916, in Westfield Township, Dodge County, Minn., to Andrew and Cora (Bagley) Nelson. On June 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Allan Mortensen at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie, Minn. Together they farmed from 1946 to 1984, when they moved to Blooming Prairie. Vera and Allan had three children, and were members of First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie, where Vera was active in the Ladies Fellowship and other church activities. She also served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Steele County 4-H Extension Committee and the Blooming Prairie Garden Club. Vera and Allan liked to go camping in their motor home, and Vera enjoyed crafts and making quilts. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Duane (Gwen) Mortensen of Austin, Delores Mortensen of Blooming Prairie and Diane Frost of Bloomington, Minn.; sisters-in-law Florence Glover of Austin and Dorothy Nelson of Washington; brother-in-law Bob Karstensen of Illinois; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Cora Nelson, and her husband Allan in 1993.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Matthew Fennell officiating. Interment will follow at the Blooming Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
