Golden Age Club
Everyone recited the Flag Pledge at the start of the monthly Golden Age meeting on Dec. 12.
Sally Michels gave the reading “God in My Garden.”
A motion to approve the secretary and treasurer’s reports was made by Shirley DeYoung and seconded by Lonnie Murphy.
Mary Durben, sunshine lady, sent get-well cards to Delores Murphy, Sally Michels and Frances Hug. Cards (500) were played at nine tables. Lunch was served by Mary Lou Houle and Jane Pesch.
December birthdays will be celebrated by Elaine Reynolds, Lonnie Murphy.
There will be no card playing on Dec. 26, but there will be on Jan. 2.
Austin Duplicate Bridge
Tournament results for Dec. 12 with four tables: First, Dave MaGee and Tom Flaherty; second, Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; Stan Schultz and Gus Brandt.
A potluck Christmas party will be held Dec. 19 at noon. Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Village Cooperative in Austin, 2301 10th St. NW, Exit 177 off I-90, two blocks north of Walmart.
All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.
Y’s Women
Y’s Women held their Christmas party Dec. 13 at the Hormel Historic Home. Members enjoyed an hors d’ oeuvres buffet. Dessert was served by Sue Apold and Marlene Fox. Various groups of Pacelli singers under the directon of David Hovland put us in holiday spirits.
A donation was given to Hy-Vee for the Feed A Family program, items were also given to the Salvation Army food shelf. Don Barnes was the winner of the dinner for six raffle.
The next meeting will be Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. John Gray will speak on the Vision 2020 program.
American Legion Auxiliary
The Austin American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 91, met Dec. 12 at the club.
The membership chair reported that with the recent addition of three members, the club has reached 76 percent of its projected goal.
Copies of the budget committee’s revised report and revised standing rules for 2012-2013 were distributed to each member.
On Dec. 17, the auxiliary assisted in filling Christmas baskets for the needy veteran families.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 9.
