The holidays may be over, almost. But it’s still time to party on New Year’s Eve, especially since we’ve all made it past the supposed end of the world on Dec. 21.

 

1) Get Fit

Despite the urge to party, first register to get back in shape, please. The YMCA’s annual Get Fit/Be Fit challenge is open for registration until Jan. 4 at www.ymca-austin.org. The cost is $15 per person and includes a free T-shirt. Teams of four to eight competitors complete mini challenges to get back or stay in shape over a 12-week period.

 

2) New Year’s eve

OK, back to business, and by that I mean partying. The Paramount Theatre is a potential first stop on Monday night, 125 Fourth Ave. NE. The venue has a New Year’s Eve extravaganza with a social hour beginning at 6 p.m. Entertainment starts at 7:30 p.m. with tons of performers, and one heck of a variety show.

Tickets are $14 for adults and $5 for students in advance or $2 more at the door.

 

3.) Get ready for some serious hockey on New Year’s Eve. The Austin Bruins take on the Coulee Region Chill at Riverside Arena, and the Bruins aren’t the only ones with a chance to win. Prizes will be given out throughout the night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. General admission is $11.

 

4.) You’re not done yet, folks. Not by a longshot. Check out the Eagles Club in Austin, 107 11th Street NE, on New Year’s Eve for prime rib, steak, shrimp, barbecue ribs and a salad bar. Rewind: Friday and Saturday at the Eagles also features music from Adam Wollenburg and the band Blue Denim each night, respectively. Shows start at 8 p.m. Haven’t had enough? Go back to the Eagles on New Year’s Day for Tom and Jerrys at 10 a.m., hot beef sandwiches, gambling and entertainment all day.

 

5.) Don’t forget about Dexter. The Windmill Inn hotel, just off of Highway 16, will have music by Tracy and The Bad Boys, pulled pork and will make it easy on guests with rooms for $40. The fun starts at 7 p.m. Monday. While in Dexter, also check out the prime rib dinner, steak and shrimp at the Pit Stop Bar. Music on Wheels will have music from 8:30 p.m. to past midnight, as well.
