Luella Henrietta Sophia Baumgartner, 104, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, Minn.

Luella Schumann was born Sept. 12, 1908, at Lake City, Minn., the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Ehlers) Schumann. She was married to Edward Baumgartner on Nov. 28, 1929, in Lake City. After their marriage, they lived on the family farm near Waltham, Minn. To this union two children were born, Kathleen and Melvin. Luella and Edward built a home in Brownsdale and resided there until Edward’s death on March 27, 1976, when Luella moved to Austin. In May of 2011, Luella became a resident of Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, where she resided until her death.

Luella was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, baking, gardening/farming and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, two brothers and five sisters.

Luella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and E. Duane Gullickson, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Anne Baumgartner, Rochester; eight grandchildren, Julie (Rick) Willmert, Janice (Weston) Wright, Jeanine (Jim) Nelson, Bradley (Lisa) Baumgartner, Karin (Kenny) Neuvirth, Bruce Baumgartner, Steven (Tammy) Baumgartner, Amy Baumgartner; 11 great-grandchildren, Amanda Green, Andy and Katie Willmert, Kyle Nelson, Ian Wright, Devan and Miles Neuvirth, Anthony and Nathan Baumgartner, Aaron and Amber Baumgartner; two great-great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Savanah; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, rural Waltham with the Rev. John Heruth officiating. Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service on Saturday morning. Memorials are preferred to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or Sacred Heart Care Center. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Bruce Baumgartner, Anthony Baumgartner, Nathan Baumgartner, Jim Nelson, Andy Willmert and Weston Wright.
