Grunewald scores game-winner for Austin girls hockey team

WINONA — Austin senior Carley Grunewald scored a goal; with 1:13 remaining of the third period to give the Packers a 4-3 come from behind win over Winona on the road Thursday.
The Packers (4-14 overall, 3-8 Big Nine) trailed 3-1 going into the third when Madison Overby scored her second goal of the night to make it 3-2 and 11 seconds later Grunewald tied the game with 9:36 left in the third.
Winona (5-9 overall, 5-7 Big Nine) stormed out to a 3-0 lead as Carly Moran had a hat trick in the first period, but Austin settled down as Allison Hoban finished with 24 saves.
“(Moran) took it to us in the first period,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “We made some changes in the second period and the defense really stepped up.”
Kennedy Thompson, Myia Hoium, Karyn Potach and Justina Talamantes all had one assist in the win for Austin.
