SCORE team
Tom Morem was elected chair of the Austin Branch of SCORE at their regular meeting held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012. He succeeds Ken Trom, who recently completed two years as chair of the Austin Branch of SCORE.
SCORE is a nationwide organization of active and retired business people who volunteer their services to start-up businesses, expanding business and businesses attempting to improve their profitability. There is no charge for their services. They can be reached through the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Duplicate Bridge
Tournament results for Jan. 9 with 4 tables played: first, Gus Brandt and Tom Flaherty; second, Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins; third, Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; fourth, David Magee and Stan Shultz.
Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Village Cooperative in Austin, 2301 10th St. NW, Exit 177 off I-90, two blocks north of Walmart. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.
Y’s Women
Y’s Women met Jan. 10 at the Hormel Historic Home. John Gray was program speaker. He showed slides and told of the various committees of the Vision 2020 project. Those in attendance enjoyed hearing the interesting ideas that have come from people involved with this project.
The goal is to make Austin a better place.
A short meeting was conducted by Georigiann Simonson. Hostesses were Marlys Dunlop and Donna Maas. The next meeting will be a game day, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Hormel Home.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 91
At the Jan. 9 meeting of the Austin American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 91, Annette Quinlan, membership chair, reported 180 members have paid their dues, reaching 80.77 percent of this year’s projected goal.
Annette also mentioned seven new members will be inducted during our initiation ceremony at the March 13 meeting at the club.
The Auxiliary will meet next on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
