Roger Hagemann, 96, Albert Lea

Roger Harold Hagemann, 96, of Albert Lea, formerly of Wells, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Wells. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate and interment will be in Rice Lake Cemetery-Foster Township in Faribault County.

Roger was born May 9, 1916, the son of Ernest and Mable (Gerber) Hagemann. He was united in marriage on June 29, 1938, to Frieda L. Woyda in Rice Lake Church. They enjoyed 68 years together. Roger graduated from eighth grade at Rice Lake School. He farmed with his father and took over the family farm in 1941 after his father’s death. The farm has been in the family since the 1870s. Roger took genuine pride in farming and he and Frieda loved the farm and the life it provided. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the National Farmer’s Organization. He served on several township boards and the elevator board. He served in many positions at Rice Lake Methodist Church and sang for many years with the men’s quartet. Roger’s hobbies included woodworking and playing the accordion.
He is survived by his son, Ron (wife Maggie) Hagemann of Moorhead; two granddaughters, Gretchen Haisman of Shakopee and Laura Hagemann of St. Paul; one great-granddaughter, Avery Haisman; one great-grandson, Benjamin Haisman; and one nephew, along with a host of friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frieda (2006); sister, Dorothy and an infant sister; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; parents; a niece and two nephews.
