The United Way of Mower County has raised a little more than $1 million so far in its 2012 fundraising campaign. That amount is 84 percent of its $1.2-million goal.

“We’re really excited to pass that million-dollar mark,” said Chris Grev, who handles marketing and communications for the United Way of Mower County. “We’re really pleased with the generosity of the community.”

The United Way kicked off the campaign Sept. 11. It runs through March 31, with an announcement to follow in early April on the totals. In 2011, the United Way had a record setting year, raising $1.03 million.

Money raised will support programs throughout Mower County that focus on education, income and health, as well as ensuring people are able to meet their basic needs.

“It goes to programs throughout Mower County to help people improve their lives,” Grev said.

Donations are still being accepted, and may be sent to P.O. Box 605, Austin or dropped off at 301 N Main St.
