A local officer reportedly uncovered a large amount of marijuana and arrested a felon in possession of a firearm last Friday after simply clocking a vehicle 10 mph over the speed limit.

The officer stopped the vehicle on Highway 218 south of Austin and discovered the driver had neither a Minnesota driver’s license nor proof of insurance. The officer also smelled marijuana in the car, according to the Mower County Court complaint and found 80 grams of weed in the glove compartment. The officer also found a 9mm pistol and ammunition.

The driver, Michael Donovan Kraus, 42, of Austin, was charged for being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon convicted of a violent crime in possession of a stun gun and for fifth-degree drugs with previous convictions.
