One of six local women will soon be honored for her achievements at Zonta’s Woman of Achievement Award ceremony on March 5.

This year’s candidates are Kiersten Hall, founder of Tuesday’s on Main and Austin Festival of Lights; Andrea Malo, Austin High School assistant principal; Shelly LeTendre, founder of Desperate Tears; Amy Baskin, Community Education director; Tori Miller, Crime Victims Resource Center director; and Elaine Hansen, Mower County Red Cross executive director.

The local Zonta organization is holding the event for its second year. Last year, Jeanne Sheenan was the Woman of Achievement.

Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Edward’s Corcoran Center in Austin followed by a 6 p.m. dinner and presentation. Among the award presentation, Dr. Earl Thompson, who started Nepal Social Services, is scheduled to be the guest speaker. There will also be a silent auction and raffle tickets.

Tickets are $30 per person, or reserved tables of eight and 10 come with one free ticket.

Money from the fundraiser will go toward two Zonta International scholarships, one Riverland Community College scholarship and two scholarships to cover the cost of GED testing.
