Lorenze Carl Lundberg, 92, of Austin, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.
Lorenze, known as Clancy by family and friends, was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Waverly, Iowa. He was the son of Oscar and Freida (Westendorf) Lundberg. He graduated from Waverly High, where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. He was married 61 years to his wife, Virginia. Together they raised 10 children.
Lorenze was a paint contractor and later worked at Beebe’s paint store in Waverly as an interior designer. He was a self-employed carpenter and lived in many of the homes he remodeled. His forte was refinishing furniture. From 1968 until his retirement, he was employed at Weyerhaeuser and served as the union president.
Lorenze was a member of St. Augustine church and the American Legion. He loved golfing, bowling, playing softball and fishing with family and friends. Lorenze and Virginia spent many years traveling with siblings and visiting their children in various states. A hidden talent few knew was writing poems to his wife along with drawing and painting pictures.
Lorenze loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and relatives. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He had a special spot in his heart for his nephew and niece, Bob and Veronica Theobald, who visited often and showed such generosity towards him. He had a smile, greeting and maybe even a witty remark for all the people he knew.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lundberg of Austin; eight children including daughters, Kenda (Bob) Tribble of Orofino, Idaho, Rebecca Lundberg of Austin, Renee (Todd) Olson of San Marino, Calif., Patricia (Bill) Bray of Carson City, Nev., Jacqueline (Loren) Walsh of Austin; sons, including Dale (Patty) Lundberg of Austin, Kim (Rebecca) Lundberg of Austin, Randy (Maren) Lundberg of Snohomish, Wash.; one daughter in-law, Jan (Ralph) Schrodermeier of Waverly, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ron and Calvin; parents; mother-in-law; and father-in-law; seven brothers and sisters; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Lorenze donated his body to the Department of Anatomy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He requested this gift to benefit the training and education of medical students. Blessed be the memory of a simple, humble, and loving man. A memorial Mass will be held in July 2013.
