Schafer: Senior Center hosting spring dance Wednesday
Published 4:50 pm Sunday, March 24, 2013
March is living up to its name this year — The snowiest month.
If you are ready to get out of the house and want do something fun, now is the time. At 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Senior Center is hosting a community Spring Dance featuring Chris Von Arx.
Chris and his Three-piece band will be here to help you get your groove on.
Dancing is a great way for people of all ages to get and stay in shape. Flexibility is an important part of being healthy. Dance requires a great amount of flexibility.
Dance is physical exercise. Exercise increases endurance.
Endurance is the ability of muscles to work hard for increasingly longer periods of time without fatigue. Regular dancing is great for improving endurance. Elevating the heart rate can increase stamina. Just as in any form of exercise, regular dancing will build endurance.
If dancing isn’t your style, come to listen and have refreshments. Dancing is a social activity. Studies have shown strong social ties and socializing with friends contribute to high self-esteem and a positive outlook. Dancing provides many opportunities to meet other people.
Because physical activity reduces stress and tension, regular dancing gives an overall sense of well-being. Entertainment and refreshments are only $3 at the door.
If music isn’t your thing, at 3 p.m. on Thursday we are having an Easter egg party. Don’t like the mess of decorating Easter eggs at home? Come down to the Senior Center and we will clean up the mess for you. We will provide the eggs and coloring equipment. Take a half dozen home with you for $1.50. See you there.
