The highlight of this weekend will surely be food and sports. There are contests, princesses, fantastic dishes, archery and of course, the good ol’ spring classic.

 1. 60 years of dairy royalty

The Mower County Dairy Princess Banquet is 60 years old! Candidates for dairy princess and milkmaids will accompany a dinner banquet at Sacred Heart School in Adams from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday. The school is on the south side of Highway 56 in downtown Adams. Contact Gene Anderson at 507-477-3457 for tickets.

 2. Play ball

Well, not quite — but practice ball, at least. A baseball clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Austin High School, 301 Third St. NW. Bring your own glove and tennis shoes, and the event is free for those 8 to 14 years old.

3. Robinhood?

OK, all young, spry archers. Hit Packer arena, 601 Seventh St. NE, at 10 a.m. Saturday for your chance to prove your proficiency with the bow and arrow. The Youth Archery Tournament is $13 and for competitors 17 and younger.

 5. Tastes

Once again, the top chefs of Mower County are ready to impress. The annual Taste of Mower County is set for Saturday at the Austin Holiday Inn, 1701 Fourth St. NW. Tickets are $25 per individual, $40 per couple or $75 for four people. The fine food event starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 8. Will two-time champion Eric Bridge go for the three-peat?

5. Slurpin’ spaghetti

Can’t make it to Austin, or looking for something a little more laid-back? Check out the spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, 411 W Main St. Tickets are $20 per family, or $6 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12. Younger are free.
