A communication error that left employees without paychecks at Austin Packaging Company last Friday has been resolved, the company said in a statement released Tuesday.
Employee paychecks started being deposited as early as Saturday morning after employees told the Herald they had not been paid.
“We quickly took steps to fix this glitch and it is now resolved,” stated Jeff Thatcher, one of APC’s owners, in the release. “Though we were surprised that this occurred, we immediately took steps to get it fixed. We have apologized to our employees, and we appreciate their understanding. We are now getting back to the business of completing our customers’ orders.”
The error may have caused more of a stir, as it occurred within two weeks of 76 APC employees being laid off. The company discontinued its production of frozen pizza, and it is going through a process to refocus on its core liquid and frozen sauce product lines.
On Friday, a man was arrested after he allegedly spray painted “No integrity = failure,” on the company’s building next to its logo. That suspect, Richard Sabin Orozco, 27, initially would not release his name to authorities, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. Orozco received a misdemeanor citation on Tuesday for fourth-degree property damage, according to Mower County Court records.
APC, in business since 1998, specializes in USDA/FDA contract manufacturing and packaging of shelf-stable, refrigerated and frozen food products, including portion control liquid sauces in pouches, cups and bowls.
