The Northwestern Singers return to the Historic Paramount Theatre joined by the Austin Big Band for their spring concert “In the Mood” at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
This concert marks the first time the Northwestern Singers have collaborated with the Big Band. The show will feature classic big band and jazz songs such as “Chatanooga Choo Choo,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “This Joint Is Jumpin’,” “In the Mood,” and more.
Two Austin Public Schools music teachers, Nikky Krautbauer and Maria Wilson, are co-directing this show. Nikky is a music teacher at Neveln Elementary School and Maria teaches choir at Ellis Middle School.
The Austin High School Jazz Band will also make a guest appearance.
They are an amazing group of talented young musicians under the direction of Brad Mariska. The Northwestern Singers have been performing in Austin for almost 60 years. Currently they have 40 members ranging in age. The Singers are from Austin, Albert Lea and many surrounding communities.
