Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is slated to travel to Albert Lea Monday night for a town hall meeting about the state budget.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Albert Lea High School.

Residents will be able to give feedback on Dayton’s proposed budget, which calls for a tax hike on the state’s highest earners, along with investments in education, job creation and a stronger middle class, according to a news release.

His budget calls for $640 million in new funding for education, $86.5 million for job creation and economic development and $120 million in aid to local governments.

The release states Dayton, a Democrat, welcomes all viewpoints at the event.

During the last three weeks, more than 1,000 Minnesotans have gathered at meetings with Dayton in Duluth, Moorhead, St. Cloud, Rochester, Mankato and Virginia.

District 27A Rep. Shannon Savick, DFL-Wells, said she is pleased the governor will be in the area to gather input from people.

“The governor has shown that he has the ability to listen to the people of Minnesota and then use that input to shape his policy decisions,” Savick said.

She encouraged people to attend.
