CLARKS GROVE — Freeborn County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man wanted on several felony warrants following a standoff that lasted for more than an hour Monday night.

A deputy attempted to stop a 37-year-old Albert Lea man at about 7 p.m. in Clarks Grove, according to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office news release. After a short car chase, Edward Olmeda, allegedly led the deputy on a short foot chase. A woman was in his vehicle was not wanted.

Olmeda barricaded himself in a shed behind an unoccupied home at 317 W. Main St. in Clarks Grove, according to the news release.

Some members of the South Central SWAT Team joined Freeborn County sheriff’s deputies at the location. After one hour and 15 minutes, the man surrendered, the news release states. No weapon was located. No one was injured.

Olmeda spent the night in the Freeborn County jail awaiting formal charges from the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Albert Lea Police Department, South Central SWAT Team, Clarks Grove Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance.
