The Austin Bruins are going to a see major change in style of hockey in the NAHL Central Finals.

After winning a slug-it-out, physical four-game series against Minot, the Bruins will now take on the Bismarck Bobcats, who outscored Brookings 20-6 in a 3-game sweep.

Games one and two of the five-game series will be held in Riverside Arena Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Austin head coach Chris Tok said the Bobcats will play at faster pace than Minot, and that might not be a bad thing.

“They’re clicking on all cylinders right now. They made some additions in late February and they’re learning to play together,” Tok said. “It will be a fast game with more quality shots and I think most of our guys would rather skate and play the wide open game.”

The Bruins and Bobcats split the regular season series with five wins apiece and it was a year ago that the Bruins, who won the NAHL Central Division title this season, had their season end to the Bobcats in Riverside Arena.

“They’re the road block,” Tok said. “They’re standing in the way of us going to the Robertson Cup. We remember what happened last year.”

Tok said the Bruins defenders will have to contain the puck outside and away from the net to give the Bruin goalies a break from Bismarck’s fast attack.

The winner of the NAHL Central Division finals will be one of four teams that advance to the Robertson Cup, which is held in Frisco, Tex. May 10-13.
