Blue Devil softball team splits with Fergus Falls

The Riverland Community College softball team had plenty of offense in a doubleheader against Fergus Falls, but it had to settle for a split in its home opener in Riverland Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (5-3 overall, 5-3 MCAC South) tallied 25 hits in the two games as they won the opener 14-8 and dropped the nightcap 9-5.
“We’ve been hitting the ball really well and it’s been a big part of our game lately,” RCC head coach Al Eckmann said.
Megan Beckius, a freshman catcher from Hanska, Minn., went 6-for-9 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs on the day.
“I wish we would’ve played a little with more enthusiasm in the second game, but I have to remember we have all freshman on the team,” Eckmann said.
The Blue Devils trailed 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning of the nightcap when Cortney Perrin just missed a three-run homer as she hit a deep fly ball that was caught at the left field fence.
