ALBERT LEA — Albert Lea police arrested a 41-year-old Texas man Sunday night for attempted murder after an alleged fight with his brother outside a home on Valley Avenue.

The suspect may face charges for second-degree assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and attempted second-degree murder after police received a report of gunshots fired in the area of High Street and Valley Avenue at about 11:30 p.m., according to the Albert Lea Police Department.

No one was injured.

The suspect’s brother also was arrested but was later released, according to police.

The brothers were reportedly in town for a family event when they got into a disagreement, police stated.

Police said they were in a silver Chevy Silverado parked in front of a house in the 800 block of Valley Avenue when the 41-year-old allegedly pulled out a Smith & Wesson .380-caliber handgun and fired a shot through the window next to his brother.

After the shot, the two men reportedly got out and yelled back and forth. Police received a couple calls about shots fired and recovered two handguns at the scene, but only one was used in the reported shooting.

The two men had been reportedly been drinking, and the shooting was not a result of gang activity.

The Albert Lea Police Department was assisted by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Cross ambulance and the Albert Lea Fire Department.
