Austin joining grand organ experience
Published 3:43 pm Saturday, May 4, 2013
Austin will join the pipe-blasting sounds of many others around the world this Sunday.
In celebration and commemoration of the 850th anniversary of the first installation of a pipe organ in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris, the Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host simultaneous pipe organ recitals at several locations on May 5. More than 850 events are being held worldwide in 24 hours as part of this historic celebration.
In southeastern Minnesota, the three free concerts will start at 3 p.m. at locations in Owatonna, Winona and Austin. The concert in Austin will take place at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1600 West Oakland Ave., on their newly renovated 35-rank Casavant pipe organ. Performers will include Ryan Hulshizer and Neal Erickson. They will play works by Temmingh, Guilian, Buxtehude, Albrecht, and Alain.
Ryan Hulshizer is a freelance organist from Northwood, Iowa. Neal Erickson serves as organist at St.Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
All are welcome to attend.
