Kenneth Lester Heydt, 95, passed away at his home in Waltham, Minn., on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
Kenneth was born on April 9, 1918, the son of Elmer and Julia (Shawback) Heydt in Waltham, Minn. He graduated from Austin High School and was in the class of 1936. Kenneth was united in marriage to Opal Pick on Dec. 21, 1940, in rural Sargeant, Minn. Kenneth was a farm mechanic and parts man with Heydt Auto Company and Waltham Equipment Inc. for 47 years. He retired at age 65. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale and enjoyed traveling and woodworking.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Opal Heydt, Waltham, Minn.; sons, Don Heydt, McAllen, Texas; Lowell (Linda) Heydt, Lake Crystal, Minn.; George (Rita) Heydt, Hayfield, Minn.; sisters, Myrl Sabin, Byron, Ill.; Mary Smith, Bloomington, Minn.; sister-in-law, Barbara Nason; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene Hartzell; brothers, Jerald Heydt and Bill Nason. The family prefers memorials to Missions or donor’s choice.
The funeral service for Kenneth Lester Heydt will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, 206 E. Main St., Brownsdale, Minn., with the Rev. Ken Petzold officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Waltham Township Cemetery in rural Waltham.
