ALBERT LEA — An Albert Lea man has been charged with first-degree aggravated witness tampering after he allegedly threatened another man with a knife who was slated to testify in court against his father.
Freeborn County District Court issued a warrant Monday for the arrest of Robert Lee DelAngel, 19.
Court documents state DelAngel reportedly threatened the man in the parking lot of the Albert Lea hospital on April 30 as the man was getting out of his car. Reports stated the man was with his girlfriend and children.
DelAngel reportedly had his hands in the front pocket of his sweatshirt and at one point pulled his hand out of his pocket to reveal part of the blade of a knife, threatening him not to show up for the court hearing for his father, Roberto Martinez DelAngel, 42.
The father faces multiple drug charges after he allegedly sold 13.9 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant during two controlled purchases in January and February.
He was previously convicted of fifth-degree possession of cocaine in May 2004.
Witness tampering carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
