Carleen Mae Helland, 84, of Austin, Minn., died Friday, May 24, 2013, at her home.
Carleen was born on Dec. 25, 1928, in Bricelyn, Minn., to German and Amanda (Holmseth) Jacobson. She graduated from both Bricelyn High School and the Mankato Commercial College. On June 19, 1949, Carleen married Morton Helland in the South Blue Earth Church in Brycelyn, Minn. In 1951 they moved to Austin.
Carleen worked at Zips Grocery, Hy-Vee Food Store and until December 2012 at the B&J. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was very active, serving in many groups and committees over the years. In her spare time, Carleen enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Morton, parents German and Amanda, and brother Gerald.
Carleen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Barry (Carol) Helland, Aurora, Minn., Michael (Mia) Helland, Mesa, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Tim) Ball, Austin; grandchildren, Elizabeth Helland, Melissa Braxton-Brown, Joseph Dudycha, Heather (Dominic) Fischer, Jeffrey Dudycha, Matthew (Adrienne) Helland, Gregg (Stacey) Helland and Luke Helland; great-grandchildren, Haley, Phoenix, Allie, Loudon, Pax and Arden; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
