Officials with the Albert Lea Police Department believe a 10-year-old boy is fraudulently taking money from the public for a false YMCA campaign, according to a news release.
The department received information about the fraudulent solicitation on Wednesday afternoon. According to reports, the boy was soliciting money for a YMCA camp using a flyer containing the YMCA logo and name.
After receiving money, the child was observed returning to a nearby van. Similar incidents have been observed during the last two weeks at parking lots of convenience stores, fast food restaurants and retail stores.
The local YMCA advised it does not have a camp where money would be solicited from the community.
