Nothing signals the beginning of summer like the first area small-town festival. Well, it’s here. Of course, there are plenty of other activities, as well.

1. Adams Dairy Days

A tradition of dairyland Minnesota continues this weekend when Adams Dairy Days opens with a citywide rummage sale on Friday. From there a beanbag tournament and youth wrestling tournament will cap off the first night. Dairy Days continues on Saturday with more rummaging, a 5K run/walk, triathlon, golf tournament, band and street dance. Sunday caps it all off with a pickup and tractor pull, the crowning of the Dairy Princess at noon, and of course, the milking contest at 8 p.m.

2. Youth at the Y

Youngsters who want to do their own running and swimming in Austin can do so at the YMCA’s Kids Triathlon, which starts 8 a.m. Saturday. Registration is $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional child.

3. Freakin’ out about Fords

Hey Ford and muscle car fans, Holiday Ford has something for you. A Mustang and all-Ford car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Holiday Ford in Austin, 2905 W Oakland Ave. Those who want to enter a car may do so for $10.

4.  Rock’n at the Paramount

Get ready for some fresh sounds at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE. Indie rock and a touch of folk will fill the theater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday as Bella Ruse and special guest Bethany Larson and the Bees Knees pump the tunes. Tickets: $10 in advance; $12 at the door.

5. Do what?

The school year may be over, but the Frank W. Bridges Theatre at Riverland Community College is still hopping. Summerset Theatre will showcase its presentation “I Do, I Do,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the theater, 1900 Eighth Ave. NW. More 7:30 p.m. showings will be June 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 16 and younger.
