The Awesome Blossoms are finally champions.

On its fourth-straight trip to state, the Blooming Prairie softball team defeated New Life Academy 3-1 to win the state Class ‘A’ title in Mankato Friday afternoon.

Blooming Prairie trailed 1-0 going into the fifth inning, but seniors Jenna Krell, Shelbi Swenson and Sam Ivers put the Awesome Blossoms ahead for good with three-straight run scoring singles.

The win is the Blooming Prairie softball team’s first title ever. The team took second last year.

Swenson was the winning pitcher and allowed only three earned runs in 21 innings in the state tournament.

Swenson, Ivers and Sydney Heiver were named to the All-Tournament team.
