Some residents in the region could wake up to an eventful start to their Wednesdays.

The National Weather Service is predicting a line of thunderstorms to move through the region late tonight into tomorrow morning, potentially around 3 a.m. The most severe threat is damaging straight line winds, but there’s also a chance for heavy rainfall, localized flooding, hail and frequent lightning.

According to the weather service, the best chance for severe weather will be along and south of Interstate 94.

The chance for storms continues through Wednesday night, but later rounds of storms aren’t expected to produce severe weather, according to the weather service.

Another round of storms is expected on Friday.

Weather outlook:

• Today: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
• Tonight Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 76. East wind 7 to 13 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
• Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 58. North wind 7 to 13 mph.
