Democrat challenger Franken has 9,088.

When the Nov. 4 General Election results were originally counted, Coleman had 6,839 and Franken had 9,090.

The Mower County recount team finished its work 6:55 p.m. Monday, according to auditor-treasurer Doug Groh.

Franken campaign representatives challenged eight votes.

Coleman campaign representatives challenged six votes.

When the Nov. 4 General Election ended, the incumbent Senator’s lead over challenger Franken statewide was 210 votes and a recount of the results was requested. That recount began last Wednesday in the state.

The Mower County recount team assembled Monday morning in the county commissioners’ meeting room to begin the recount with a large number of Coleman and Franken campaigns’ representatives watching.

The auditor-treasurer said most of the challenges made by the campaigns’ representatives were “frivolous.”

“I think there was only one that could be considered truly legitimate,” Groh said. “The rest were simply frivolous.”

The Auditor-Treasurer himself was challenged by the twin campaigns’ representatives for rendering his own opinion when the challenges were made.

“I checked with the Secretary of State and received an e-mailed opinion that said I could do that,” Groh said.

The Auditor-Treasurer said the recount “went well” and expressed his appreciation to the recount team for their services.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said Monday that the recounts occurring throughout Minnesota are on schedule. He reported that more than 40 percent of the 2.9 million ballots had been recounted by the end of the second day last week. He said that all recounts will be done by Dec. 5. Ritchie also presented the schedule for upcoming state canvassing board meetings.

“I am so appreciative of the efforts of county and city election officials,” Ritchie said. “This recount process has been well organized and further illustrates that Minnesota is the gold standard in election administration.”
