The Austin Bruins have completed the NAHL draft and offered all of their offseason tenders and head coach Chris Tok is feeling pretty good about what the team has so far.

He’s just hoping the USHSL doesn’t keep those players from coming to Austin.

“They look pretty good. The big thing is who you can get,” Tok said. “Even if we get half of them, we’ll be in good shape.”

The Bruins, who are coming off their first Central Division championship in their third year as a franchise, selected forward Sam Kauppila of Chicago Mission U18 with their first pick. Kauppila could play for the USHSL’s Green Bay Gamblers, but that team told Tok that Kauppila may need a year of seasoning in the NAHL.

“He could be a real added bonus if we get him,” Tok said.

The Bruins used four of their last five picks on defenseman and they’re hoping a couple of them could end up in Austin.

“We were just kind of throwing darts at the board there,” Tok said. “If any of them drop down from the USHSL, they could be a top four defenseman for us halfway through the season.”
