Hocking to attend ArtWorks Fest

This is the continuation of a series of articles profiling some of the artists participating in this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival. The series will continue until the festival itself.
Austin native and bestselling author Amanda Hocking will be presenting at the Austin ArtWorks Festival at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Her books are described as young adult paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Amanda worked in group homes for people with disabilities for five and a half years writing in her spare time.
That all changed in 2010 when sales of her books began to take off. She has been a full time writer ever since.
Her career began with self-publishing, selling her novels as low-priced eBooks.
Since then, she’s become the exemplar of self-publishing success in the digital age, having sold over one million copies of her novels.
Two series of her books, the “Trylle Trilogy” and “My Blood Approves,” are USA Today bestsellers. In 2012, St. Martin’s Press acquired the rights to publish Hocking’s “Trylle Trilogy.”
The trilogy has been optioned for film by Media Capital Rights with the screenplay adapted by Academy Award Nominee Terri Tatchell, who co-wrote the screenplay for “District 9.”
“Elegy,” the fourth book in Amanda’s new “Watersong” series, will be released on Aug. 6, a few weeks before her Festival appearance.
Amanda is one of many authors making an appearance at the Austin ArtWorks Festival, which runs Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25.
