ST. PAUL, Minn. — State licensing investigators have decided against citing the Minnesota Security Hospital after a patient stabbed his roommate in the face with a pencil.

A report from the Minnesota Department of Human Services licensing division says the evidence was inconclusive as to whether the facility or employees neglected the patient who perpetrated the attack or his roommate, who was injured.

The licensing report says the attacker was committed to the hospital as mentally ill and dangerous after stabbing an inmate with a pencil at a different facility in 1998. The victim of the latest attack says the facility should have told him about the prior incident before he became the man’s roommate.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports the attacker was moved to a higher security unit after the stabbing in May of 2012.
