Celebrate safely

The threat of auto accidents accompanies most major holidays, and the Fourth of July seems to attract more than its fair share of hazards. We encourage everyone celebrating Thursday, Friday or the entire extended weekend — whether you stay in Austin or travel across the country — to make safety a priority.
The Fourth of July involves traveling for many to be with family and friends. Add those who make the poor decision to drink and drive to the equation, and roads become even more dangerous. Then, there’s firecrackers, legal and illegal, drinking and boating. Hopefully, people chose not to mix those festivities; each are dangerous enough on their own.
Please choose to drive sober, use (legal) fireworks with caution, and not mix alcohol with other dangerous activities. And while everyone is celebrating, remember what Independence Day is about
