The Austin Area Commission for the Arts recently announced Minneapolis-based Jelloslave will be performing at the Historic Paramount Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19.

Jelloslave is a very dynamic and unique ensemble comprised of two cellos, tablas, and drums. Their performance at the Paramount is part of an eight city Minnesota tour, which is supported through the Minnesota State Arts Board Touring Grant program.

According to Minnesota Singer Prudence Johnson, “Jelloslave stands out among Minnesota’s great musicians with their luscious sound and beautiful repertoire.” Chris Roberts from Minnesota Public Radio has commented that “The Minneapolis band Jelloslave, with two fiery cellists at its core, takes the cello where quartets and concertos don’t usually go.”

Jelloslave has released two critically acclaimed CDʼs and performed throughout the Twin Cities in venues including: Orchestra Hall, The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Cedar Cultural Center, Mill City Museum, The Guthrie, Minnesota Public Radio, and The Southern Theater. Approaching the cello as the new guitar, they take the cello out of its traditional classical arena and position it as a folk instrument.

The concert at the Paramount will take the audience on a journey through time and genre from Bach to Led Zeppelin, folk music, jazz, and music of the world. It will include Jelloslave’s original instrumental compositions along with creative and improvisational arrangements of several songs, which is sure to entertain listeners of all ages and musical tastes.
