Drunk teen reportedly steals Jeep and boat, leads police on low-speed chase

ALBERT LEA — An Austin teenager was arrested early Sunday morning after he reportedly stole a vehicle towing a boat, and then led police on a chase.

The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody on felony allegations of motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, fleeing police in a motor vehicle and third-degree driving while intoxicated.

Police received a report that a black 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen at about 3 a.m. Sunday from the driveway of 411 Maurice Ave. in Albert Lea. The Jeep was towing a boat on a trailer.

Officers reportedly found the Jeep driving westbound on Fountain Street near Vine Avenue. The officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled from police at low speeds through the surrounding neighborhood.

The teen eventually ran from the Jeep on foot after stopping in the parking lot of Lakeview Elementary School.

Police stopped him after a short foot chase.
