David Loren Nack, 78, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

David was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Austin to Melbourne and Bedelia (Meyer) Nack. While attending Austin Catholic Schools, David worked as a mechanic. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. After his discharge, he worked as a postman and then at Hormel Foods Corporation for 30 years. After his retirement from Hormel, he worked at Walmart from 2008 until his death. On Sept. 13, 1958, David was united in marriage to Gwen McClary. They were married for 54 years. Dave was a very talented wood carver. Two of his bear carvings are on display in Austin, one at the arena and the other by the downtown pool.

Survivors include his wife Gwen Nack of Austin; his daughters Janni Donovan (Jeff Moe) of Austin and Jamie (Brian) Rogness of Emmons, Minn.; his son Peter Nack of Austin; one granddaughter Rachel Donovan of Austin; grandsons Riley Donovan of Austin and Carter and Cooper Rogness of Emmons; brothers and sisters Joel (Jenny) Nack of Denver, Colo., Jane Wallace of Austin, Douglas Nack of Caledonia, Minn., Suzanne (Verlyn) Ryks of Rose Creek, Minn.; brothers-in-law Mick (Pam) McClary and Don (Marcine) McClary, both of Austin; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews; great-grandnieces and -nephews, friends, and Walmart family. He was preceded in death by his parents Melbourne and Bedelia Nack, son Bradley David Nack, in-laws Glen “Pete” McClary and Irene McClary, sister Joan Austin and brother-in-law John Austin, and sister-in-law Marit Nack.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, immediately preceding the service. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 following the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery at a later date.
