Moscow Lutheran Church knows getting new windows can be a real “pane” on the pocketbook.

The local church will serve dinner at a drive-in fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 21, to raise money for new picture windows.

The church has held 18 drive-in fundraisers in the past, raising money for bible camps, food shelves, scholarship funds and mission work. This year the church plans to use the funds for its own sanctuary. According to Kris Wilkie of the Moscow Lutheran Church, the 128-year-old building has not had its windows replaced since the 1980s.

“We hope to be around for a very long time,” she said. “So in order to have efficient worship space, we must regularly maintain what we have.”

The church is putting a lot of work into the fundraiser to create the desired setting.

“Picture an old fashioned drive-in where you can get burgers made on a grill, root beer floats, malts and shakes with fresh strawberries,” Wilkie said.

The church will lay out picnic tables, but people can choose to eat in their cars.

According to Wilkie, prospects for the event are high. In past years, about 220 to 240 people attended, and the church raised around $1,800. She hopes to match that number this year.

Although raising funds is the intention of the event, volunteers and attendees can expect to have a good time.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able visit with the community and do something fun and different,” she said.

Church volunteers look forward to this event every year, and hope for success.

“We hope to see many smiling faces because we sure have a lot of fun,” Wilkie said.
