Nadine (Knotts) Henschen, 88, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

Nadine Dorothy Riley was born July 2, 1925, in Kountze, Texas, to Daniel and Mattie (Taylor) Riley. She attended school in Texas. On April 29, 1942, Nadine and Elery Howard Knotts were married in Leesville, La. They met at Camp Polk, La., while Elery was in the service. Nadine and Elery lived their entire married life in Austin. They enjoyed spending winters in Rockport, Texas. Elery passed away Sept. 10, 1989. On July 26, 1992, Nadine married Hilton Henschen in Austin, where they continued to reside. A long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church, Nadine loved to sing and travel. Over the years, she enjoyed her involvement in the Cedar Chords and the Sweet Adelines. Nadine worked for Hormel Foods and Clean Towel Service, as well as a volunteer for the Red Cross for over 30 years. She treasured time spent with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Hilton of Austin; her daughters, Merlene (James) Stiles of Austin and Erlene (Gordon) Haskin of Holland, Mich.; her grandchildren, Terri, Kerry, Lisa, Aaron, Andrea, Gabrielle and Jay; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Pat Riley of Lumberton, Texas; brother-in-law Pete (Kathy) Hancock of Mapleview, Minn.; sister-in-law Helen Knotts of Austin; many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Mattie Riley; her husband Elery Knotts; her siblings Norman, Howard, Mert, Mickey, Paul, Eva Lee, Irene, Willy, Ruth, and her twin Maudine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Minn., with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
