A former resident of Austin, Minn., was appointed as the third dean of the Emeritus College, Arizona State University.

Dr. Quentin Bogart received the appointment July 1. The two-year, renewable appointment was made jointly by ASU president Michael Crow and Provost Elizabeth Phillips. The EC Dean is a volunteer, unpaid employee of the University.

Arizona State is known as the “New American University” because of its focus on programs that prepare students for careers emphasizing sustainability and saving the environment, as well as careers that might be thought of as traditional.  ASU’s Emeritus College is made up of 460 retired professors who are involved with and actively support the University’s mission.  The College sponsors credit and non-credit courses, short talks, special lectures, cooperative member/student research, and it produces an annual Symposium on a popular topic. In addition, the college publishes a literary journal, “Emeritus Voices,” and a quarterly newsletter.

In addition to completing his B.A. and M.S. degrees at Fort Hays Kansas University, Bogart earned his Ph.D at the University of Texas at Austin.  He’s been the president of a community college in south Texas and served as an administrator in both two and four-year colleges in Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and Kentucky, prior to joining the ASU faculty in 1970.

Bogart, who attended Austin High School, is married and with his wife, Norma, they have three sons.  His mother, the late Katherine Bogart, was a teacher at Austin High School.
