I.J. Holton Intermediate School Principal Jean McDermott told the Austin Public Schools Board Monday preparations are on schedule for the first day of school on Sept. 3.
“We will be starting school in three weeks and the school will be ready to go,” McDermott said.
The library and kitchen areas of the school are now ready to use, while the cafeteria still holds construction supplies and awaits the installation of rubber flooring. The gym will soon have electronic bleachers put in place, and railings and signature walls will be among the final touches on hallways.
“A lot of what’s happening now is to make sure that one step leads to another,” McDermott said, adding phone and computer networks will go live by early next week.
Holton’s group conferences for parents will be held Aug. 28 and 29, and an open house dedication ceremony will follow on Sept. 28.
