GOODHUE — The Hayfield football didn’t let a late drive stalling stop it as the Vikings bounced back and quarterback Cam Rutledge found Cole Kruger for the game-winning touchdown in a 21-20 victory at Goodhue (0-1 overall, 0-1 SFA Blue) Friday.
The Vikings (1-0 overall, 1-0 SFA Blue) were stopped at Goodhue’s 3-yard line late in the fourth quarter, but they forced a three-and-out from Goodhue and drove for the game-winning 10-yard pass thrown by Rutledge that came with 53 seconds left in the game.
Kruger also booted in the PAT that officially put Hayfield on top.
“Goodhue is always a very physical team and to win on the road like this is huge,” Hayfield head coach Andy Weiers said. “You could tell all game that these kids didn’t have any quit in them.”
