Letter to the Editor

We would like to thank the Austin community for its generous contributions to help the Austin Fire Department “Fill the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Over our past five years of participation, we have been continuously amazed at the generosity of our community. We are proud to say that because of your donations we collected just more than $18,000, passing last year’s total of $13,000.

During our three days of volunteering in the drive, we had the opportunity to visit with two amazing families that experience Muscular Dystrophy in their daily lives. Both families were very thankful for the outpouring of support from the community to help in the research of Muscular Dystrophy and to aid in sending children with MD to camp.

We would also like to thank the businesses that donated food for the firefighters after donating their time collecting contributions for the MDA campaign. In addition, we would like to thank our families for volunteering their time to help with the MDA campaign, preparing meals for volunteers, and for your continued support. By working together as a community you made this fifth year another extremely successful MDA drive. We are proud to be a part of the Austin Community.
