Russell Donald Erickson, 100, of Austin, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

He was born May 28, 1913, in Austin, to Melvin and Katie (Best) Erickson. After attending Austin Public Schools, Russell began work at age 15 at Hormel Foods Corp. He moved to Montana in 1948, where he worked in West Glacier as a butcher. On Sept. 15, 1934, Russell was united in marriage to Eulaha ‘Uke’ Allen at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Uke passed away in 2002. In 2004, Russell returned to Austin, where he eventually moved into the Cedars of Austin. He loved hunting, fishing and traveling to Canada.

Survivors include three brothers, Robert (Darlene) Erickson, Kenneth ‘Pinky’ (Susan) Erickson, and Donald (Shirley) Erickson, all of Austin; one sister, Nancy Zschunke of Austin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Katie Erickson and one brother, Roland.
