Elaine Shannon, 84, Albert Lea

Funeral service for Elaine Therese Shannon will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Timothy T. Reker, the Rev. Jerome Verdick and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery.

Elaine died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. She was 84 years old.

Elaine was born in Alpha on March 27, 1929, the daughter of Peter and Roselle (Skalicky) Verdick. She graduated from Jackson High School and attended St. Theresa College in Winona and Mankato State College. She was united in marriage to Edward Shannon on April 7, 1951, in Jackson.

After she was married they lived in Sparta, Wis., Mankato, Jordan, Madelia and moved to Albert Lea in 1958. Elaine was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. Elaine had worked at Clothing Care and Thorne Crest Retirement Community. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward; children, Lorie Davis of Zumbrota, Linda (Chuck) Trost of Glenville, Pete (Deanna Cook) Shannon of New Richmond, Wis., and Carol Shannon of Vadnais Heights; grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Kelli Trost, Krista Trost, Kari (Josh) Luehmann, Megan Cook-Shannon and Alex Cook-Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Tate Luehmann; brothers, Leo (Barbara) Verdick of Los Angeles, Calif., and Father Jerome Verdick of Alpha; sister, Mary Kelly of Omaha; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Jerry Kelly.
