An Austin man was ordered to go to jail Friday after he was sentenced in five criminal cases.

Kenneth Durane Horne, 22, was sentenced to one year in jail, but given credit for nearly 200 days served, for for his actions in different cases: obstructing the legal process, domestic assault and knowingly transferring an STD, all gross misdemeanors. He was also convicted of misdemeanors for receiving stolen property, theft and tampering with a vehicle, for which he must serve 90 days in jail.

Last October, a loud scuffle at an apartment led Austin police officers to make two arrests. Police went to the 1000 block of Second Avenue Southwest where a neighbor had called after hearing a fight upstairs. Officers then spoke with a woman at about 11:30 p.m. where the fight allegedly happened; however, the reported scuffle had ended, and two men had left the apartment.

Officers later saw Horne; however, Horne would not stop when told and eventually struggled with one officer.

The woman at the apartment had a black eye and told officers that happened about a week before this incident. She said Horne caused her black eye, according to the police report; however, she did not want to press charges as she thought Horne already had a court case for assault, and she hoped he would be jailed.

Horne was then charged in December with knowingly transferring an STD after having sex with a victim who was unaware of Horne’s condition.
